Elementary and Middle School Sports

Paid coaches and officials positions are available for after school sports. Fall sports are volleyball and football, winter sports are boys and girls basketball, and spring sports are middle school and elementary school track. Programs run from  August 2015 - May 2016. Park Maintenance Worker II

Regular Part-time position, 37 hours per week

Pay: $12.13 per hour starting wage

Benefits: Public Agency retirement system (PARS), Vacation and Sick leave(pro-rated), Direct Payroll Deposit, 12 paid holidays, CA State Disability Insurance/Worker's Compensation Insurance, District-paid medical insurance subsidy, and District-paid uniforms, including footwear.

Job Description: Under supervision, to perform a variety of manual labor and semi-skilled tasking involving maintenance, repair, and upkeep of District parks, landscaped areas, buildings, facilities, and structures; To perform the more difficult and specialized maintenance and construction assignments involving application of basic craft skills; and to perform other job related work as required.

Education: Graduation from high school with a diploma or G.E.D and the ability to read and write the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance.

Experience: Twelve (12) months of full-time paid maintenance experience.

Requirements: Possession of a valid CA drivers license, free of any conditions that might restrict the employee's ability to operate a District vehicle, consistent with the requirements of the job.

Special Requirements: Prior to an offer of employment, successful applicants will be fingerprinted and undergo a background check in accordance with applicable law.

Picnic Reservation Specialist

Part Time weekend from 3/1-10/31, Saturdays and Sundays

Hours: 7am-4pm. 10-20 hours per week

Description: Working on weekends and specific holidays. Responsibilities include cleaning and preparation of outdoor picnic facilities for private parties.

Duties Include: Posts and updates Picnic Reservation Site signage; Performs site safety inspection; Checks park restrooms; Cleans and restocks supplies as needed; Empty all trash barrels adjacent to reserved site; Sweep, blow or wash down concrete pads to remove debris/spills.

Compensation: $11.00 per hour, no benefits

Requirements: Valid driver’s license

Programming and Marketing Specialist- Swanston Community Center

DEFINITION:

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Recreation Services coordinates, implements, supervises and evaluates community center marketing and special events; youth, adult, and senior leisure enrichment classes, and provides supervision of the Community Center in the absence of the Supervisor of Recreation Services/Community Center Director.

Recreation and Programming Specialist

Splash Park Attendant

Part time daily from 5/9-9/27, 3-4 days/week

Hours: 9am-7pm, 20-30 hours per week

Description: Specific duties include but are not limited to the fallowing tasks: Police the grounds for safety issues prior to opening Splash Park; Wash/blow down the splash pad and remove any debris, gum, water balloons, candy wrappers from the drains or surrounding areas; Start up of equipment including cleaning pump filters and reservoir tank; Take daily water tests and record all data; Check park restrooms and restock supplies as needed; Monitor activity on splash pad for safe use; Adjust chemicals as needed to keep system within tolerances; Set up and take down shade umbrellas and signage.

Compensation: $11.00 per hour, no benefits

TEAM LEADER with the BRIDGES After School Program

Mission Oaks Recreation and Park District is looking for college students or those interested in careers in education to work in the Bridges After-School Program with elementary and middle school students in the San Juan Unified School District for the 2012-13 school year.

We are looking for people who can plan and lead recreation games, assist students with homework, and facilitate enrichment activities. Please do not apply for this position if you are looking for a short-term, temporary position. Building positive relationships with students is critical to the success of our programs and we prefer candidates who are committed.  Work schedules are Monday-Friday and hours vary depending on the school sites, but are approximately 2:00-6:15 MTWF and 12:30-6:15 on Thursdays.  You can read the qualifications and description for this position below.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Basic academic competency must be demonstrated by providing one of the following: Proof of a passing score on the San Juan Unified School District’s proficiency exam, transcripts demonstrating completion of two years of college (48 semester units/60 quarter units), an AA/AS degree (or higher), or proof of a passing score on the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST).

The position requires passing of a criminal background check. 

Education and Experience (Recreation Leader I):

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent; any combination of training, education, and experience which demonstrates the ability to assist in the planning and facilitation of activities in an after school program; Ability to work after school hours and attend occasional evening or weekend meetings/trainings; CPR/First Aid certification desirable.

Recreation Leader I Description:

Under general supervision assists in providing academic support to both large and small groups of elementary, middle and/or high school students. Facilitates assigned enrichment and recreation activities to students and performs miscellaneous related duties. Applicants should have the:

  • Desire to work with children
  • Ability to lead groups of children in homework assistance, enrichment, and recreation activities
  • Ability to facilitate age appropriate and safe group activities
  • Maintain professional boundaries with students and staff
  • Ability to communicate effectively, take directions, and follow through
  • Desire to work collaboratively on a team
  • Competency in basic academic skills such as reading, math, spelling, language arts and writing.
